Crystal Food Imports is a market leading wholesale
gourmet foods importer/distributor. Founded in 1969,
by John A. Ciano, Crystal Food Imports has been the
constant leader of innovation in the cheese business
Crystal Food Import began as a meat business, in a
small shop in Faneuil Hall in Boston. Due to a
budding wholesale business, Crystal outgrew its
small venue and soon moved to East Boston, close to
the ocean as well as the airport.
Our loyal customers thirst for unique products and
it is our mission to source and procure the best
food products available in our increasingly global
world. Though politics and the economy may waiver,
the American public’s education and palate for fine
gourmet foods continues to grow. Today's customer is
more sophisticated and requires more from their food
supplier.
Innovation…Crystal was the first importer to bring
cheese into the United States by plane. By flying
the cheese, customers could place an order and
receive it within two weeks, instead of waiting a
month or more. Crystal was the first company to
introduce Boursin, Edel de Cleron, Mascarpone, and
Mozzarella di Bufala to the United States.
Crystal remains the leader in specialty cheeses in
the USA. Rare, hand crafted, farm produced cheeses
are a specialty of Crystal Food Imports. We import
directly from 16+ countries (mostly from Europe).

specialty items from 14 countries. We specialize in
rare, handcrafted, farm produced cheeses. Our
product line includes but is not limited to: Air

Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Tapenades, 34° Fruit Pastes. We
truly are “The Gourmet Food People”.
Crystal Food Import currently imports directly from
the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Canada,
Denmark, England, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Italy,
France, Spain & Switzerland. Crystal also offers
products from Argentina, Australia, Bulgaria,
Finland, Norway, Turkey and the United States.
Crystal is a wholesale importer/distributor. We sell
to specialty shops, natural food chains,
supermarkets, restaurants, food service, cheese
shops and mail order catalogs (unfortunately we do
not sell to individuals).
We have our own trucks delivering along the East
Coast as far down as Virginia and have contracts
with common carriers to cover the rest of the United
States. We also use airfreight as a fast method of
shipping. We research the fastest and most cost
effective ways to serve each individual customer.
After 40 years, Crystal is still a family run
business. John is joined by two of his children,
daughter, Stephanie Ciano-Pace and son, John R.
